Position Summary

The Sioux Falls School Board in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is seeking applications and nominations for the President of Southeast Technical College. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a progressive post secondary technical school. Southeast Tech is located in the beautiful and vibrant community of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The school serves approximately 2,500 students enrolled in a plethora of certification, technical, and joint degree programs served by over 200 dedicated staff members. Students have numerous on and off-campus housing options.

The facilities at Southeast Tech are outstanding with the first campus building constructed in 1990. The school finds itself within a community with an exceptionally high employment rate and local businesses clamoring for technically trained employees. The next President will be charged with continuing to expand relationships to better meet the needs of this robust business community.

The current President has announced his resignation effective August 1, 2024, and a start date will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The President reports to the Sioux Falls School Board.

Essential Functions

Reports/Recommends to the School Board for authorization, includes, but not limited to:
  • Policy matters
  • Changes in personnel and in personnel policies
  • Annual budget and report of financial condition of Southeast Technical College
  • Southeast Technical College’s Strategic Plan and its execution
  • Development of campus building programs and site utilization
  • New or changes to existing educational course models and programs
  • Establishment of community and trade advisory relationships

Staff Supervision
  • Supervises the activities of the college Vice Presidents, the Chief Information Officer, Foundation Director, and Executive Assistant.
  • Participates in the assignment, promotion, and dismissal of employees.
  • Works with the Vice Presidents to coordinate professional development opportunities for employees.
  • Assist employees with employee or student problems.

Budget Development and Control
  • Oversees, along with the Vice President of Finance and Operations, Southeast Technical College’s institutional budget
  • Gives final approval on significant expenditures
  • Coordinates with the Vice President of Finance and Operations to develop a yearly budget for the institution

Curriculum/Facilities
  • Provides planning and direction to programs and activities at Southeast Technical College
  • Works with the Southeast Technical College Curriculum Committee
  • Promotes continuous curriculum development through the efforts of the Vice president of Academic Affairs
  • Oversees the supervision of any new construction or building remodeling

Public Relations
  • Participates with the Marketing Coordinator in the dissemination of information to the public regarding Southeast Technical College programs.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining good relations with civic, professional, service, parent organizations and the community in general by having an active interest and involvement in community activities
  • Works with state and local government
  • Represents Southeast Technical College at the School Board meetings, Board of Regents meetings, and Board of Technical Education meeting

Position Qualifications
  • Progressively responsible experiences in an executive-level leadership position in an organization of comparable complexity and sophistication or experience in a leadership position within postsecondary education.
