Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Sustainability Associate will support the Office of Sustainability in managing outreach and communications programs that engage students living in residence halls and fraternity/sorority chapters in designed sustainability behavior programs as well as outreach to engage faculty, staff, and off-campus students. The Associate will directly support the Office of Sustainability Outreach Coordinator in carrying out two green housing programs: the Green Chapter Program in DFSL, and the Green Terp Program in DRL. The Associate will interact with and/or advise staff and students will collaborate as needed with staff in various offices, including but not limited to Resident Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Dining Services, Transportation Services, Living/Learning Programs, Facilities Management, and Residential Facilities. The Associate will also provide support and assistance to Office of Sustainability programs and initiatives including communications. This is a twelve-month contractual position with funding for one year and the prospect of continuing funding for additional years based on the successful implementation of programs. The position may require evening weekend work.

This is an entry-level professional development position. No professional experience is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
At least one year of experience as a full-time student in a higher education institution involved in one or more aspects of campus sustainability.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills including excellent writing skills and the ability to speak and present to small groups of people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, methods, practices and procedures associated with campus sustainability.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software programs and basic Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships. Ability to work independently, to be a team leader and to be a team member.
  • Ability to supervise and direct student interns. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Academic experience specific to sustainability preferred.
  • Development and/or implementation of environmental and/or sustainability programs, behavior-change programs, environmental planning or policy, or related area.
  • Experience in student or university-sponsored organizations involved in one or more aspects of sustainability environmental initiatives, resource management, and teaching/presenting complex information is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Education, Communications, Business, Engineering, Journalism, Life Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Master’s or other advanced degrees in the above-listed areas or related fields preferred, such as Higher Education/Student Affairs.
  • At least two or more years of experience in developing and implementing environmental sustainability initiatives and projects; experience in teaching/ presenting complex information
  • Experience in housing.

Additional Information:

Salary range $57,200-$71,500,
