Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The purpose of the Upward Bound Counselor is to provide personal, academic, and career development counseling to low-income potential first generation college students by equipping participants with the necessary skills to successfully matriculate to post-secondary institutions of their choosing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, student personnel or related field in human services.

Experience:
  • Two years working with high school students.
  • Three years experience working with ethnically diverse and multicultural population. 
  • Experience designing and facilitating workshops with TRIO or other pre-college programs. 
  • Experience in academic advising and career/vocational counseling.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Specific knowledge of post-secondary educational opportunities and financial-aid.

Preferences:

Preferences:
Two years experience with administration of counseling assessments. Bilingual (Spanish).

Additional Certifications:

Eligible for National Certified Counselor (NCC) and state licenses as professional counselor (LPC).

Additional Information:

Salary range is $56,641 – $70,802.
