Job Description

  • Enforces university regulations, and city and state laws as they apply on university property and designated areas
  • Performs routine tasks as assigned using existing procedures, practices, techniques, etc.
  • Patrols, inspects, supervises, responds to, etc. routine Institutional Safety and/or police operations
  • Performs standard assignments and responsibilities and makes recommendations for improvement/efficiency, resourcing, etc., as necessary
  • Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems and/or correct standard, routine issues
  • Conducts preliminary investigations, collecting and preserving evidence, etc.
  • Has limited impact on own work team
  • Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet established deadlines
  • Exchanges straightforward information
  • Develops working relationships with various teams/parties
  • Maintains confidentiality and sensitivity to audience/situation

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Work rotating shifts operating police vehicles or conducting foot patrol throughout assigned geographical areas, observing for criminal activity or other incidents requiring police intervention
  • Speaks informally on a continuing basis with citizens concerning local ordinances, state laws, and police related subjects to assist in resolving their particular problem in cooperation with the Department
  • Answers calls regarding service, illness, accidents, disturbances, crime, or distress and provides necessary assistance
  • Conducts after hour security checks of university buildings and property
  • Responds to in-progress or recent criminal incidents to apprehend violators, restore, or maintain public safety and obtain pertinent information for subsequent investigations. May use necessary physical force to subdue suspected criminals
  • Makes pedestrian/vehicle stops to question suspects of ordinance/statute violations. Interview victims, witnesses, and actual or suspected subjects in criminal incidents.
  • Writes a variety of narrative reports on incidents, information, traffic stops and accidents
  • May serve as field training officer for new personnel
  • Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities
  • Keeps in contact with the public, court officials, and other city officials in the performance of police operations activities; and frequently attends training programs to enhance job knowledge and performance
  • Dispatch and assist with information disbursement
  • Provide crime prevention programs to the campus community

Supervision Received:

  • Work independently, under general supervision, and cooperatively with coworkers within procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Missouri operator’s license
  • Missouri POST certification may be required prior to employment, but it is required once job is started

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Advanced levels of education and safe driving record without violations, summonses, and arrests.
  • 30 college credit hours from accredited college or university OR 2 years federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge OR 2 years’ experience as full-time POST certified peace officer

Anticipated Hiring Range


 

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $25.49 hourly.


Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
