Summary of Position

Under the direct supervision of the Equine Facility Manager, the Assistant Manager – Equine Facility will direct daily activities related to the care of 50 horses such as feeding, cleaning stalls, sheds, paddocks and waterers, turn-out/turn-in and medical treatments as needed. The assistant Manager will schedule student staff work shifts using computer/email and supervise the Lead Farm Worker and students workers in daily activities. The Assistant Manager will be responsible for all facility maintenance procuring supplies as needed, assist the veterinarian and farrier and other professional appointments, maintain medical records on UNH horses, assist with tours and outreach activities and assist with facility setup/tear down for horse shows and facility rentals.

Other minimum qualifications

1. Associates Degree in related field. 2. 5 years experience working in the equine field. 3. 2 years supervisory experience. 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 5. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. 6. Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment as necessary. 7. Valid drivers license. 8. Ability to safely operate all farm vehicles including but not limited to tractors, trucks, horse trailers and passenger vehicles. Ability to obtain NH DOT medical certification.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

1. B.S. Degree in Equine field. 2. Stallion handling experience.

Recognize horse health issues. Appropriately attend to routine and emergency situations requiring the veterinarian. Maintain medical records on UNH horses. Assist with the Farrier and other professional appointments as needed.

Recruit/hire, train, supervise and schedule student employees. Approve timesheets. Direct Lead Farm Worker regarding daily tasks as well as future projects.
