As part of the largest College at the University of Michigan, LSA Finance employs more than 100 staff who provide financial, procurement, and research administration support to over 100 units. LSA Finance is seeking a finance professional to provide financial and research administration support services to LSA business offices. The Financial Specialist Associate is a key member of the business office serving multiple units. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills to partner with colleagues at all levels and within multiple University offices.

Flexible Work Arrangements

As part of the University of Michigan's Future Work Initiative and LSA Finance's Flexible Work Arrangements, you may work either on campus or remotely. There is a requirement to come to campus as necessary throughout the year to facilitate intentional collaboration, team building, and connections. This includes times when the project or work would benefit from on-campus presence, or when requested by the customer. This also includes required on-campus deposit activities on a rotational basis. Any travel planning or expenses related to coming to campus are the responsibility of the employee.

Responsibilities*

This position is the LSA business office liaison to assigned LSA units, working closely with LSA chief administrators and various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include providing accounting
services for processes such as Guest and Student Reimbursements (TBHER) and PeoplePay requests, utilizing M-Pathways and interfacing with the SSC as needed. The role entails receiving information from department faculty, staff, and administrators to prepare paperwork or process online submissions, ensuring compliance with LSA and UM policies, tracking transactions within the system to ensure proper payment, and completing timely processing. Additionally, the position ensures that journal entries are accurate, correctly coded, and compliant with regulations and requirements.

The Financial Specialist will initiate accounts receivable and accounts payable responsibilities, assist with handling lump sum/cash advance requests and reconciliation, visa requests, SVC requests, and general accounting tasks such as journal entries, fund transfers, chartfield maintenance, recharge activity processing, and royalties tracking and distribution.

Cash handling responsibilities include receiving and depositing cash and checks, gift processing, and deposit reconciliation.

In addition, the role involves assisting other members of the LSA Finance team as needed and participating in continuous process improvement efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations within the department.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a financially related field, required. Excellent, demonstrated customer service skills are essential as customer service is core to the mission of LSA Finance. In addition, candidates must have the ability to develop and implement procedures, prepare reports, and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Some financial analysis will be required. Well-developed interpersonal skills, the ability to work with diverse groups of customers, and demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication are all required. Mastery of Excel and comfort with changing technology are essential. Must have the ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with co-workers. Candidates must attend to detail, exhibit sound judgment, follow work through to completion, and meet high work standards.
