What You’ll Do
In this pivotal position, you will connect science, advocacy, and policy to drive progress in rare disease research and improve patient outcomes. Your responsibilities will span external engagement, program development, communication, and operational management.

Key Responsibilities:
External Engagement and Partnerships:
- Leverage scientific knowledge to cultivate relationships with academic institutions, clinicians, industry partners, government agencies, and patient advocacy groups.
- Pursue and manage public-private partnerships to enhance rare disease research and treatment innovation.
- Establish and support global research and advocacy collaborations with other rare disease organizations.
- Represent the University at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, foundations, and corporate partners in partnership with Notre Dame Research and the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
- Ensure alignment of external engagement efforts with strategic priorities of the Center.
Program Development and Management:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and the Director of Patient Advocacy Education and Outreach to help develop and implement programs addressing gaps in rare disease research , advocacy, and education.
- Integrate patient perspectives into research and advocacy efforts.
- Monitor program success, share progress with stakeholders, and implement improvements.
Communication and Outreach:
- Provide content for the Center’s websites, newsletters, and social media that resonates with diverse audiences and increases visibility of the Center’s initiatives.
- Help organize and participate in outreach events, seminars, and symposia to promote collaboration among global experts.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to provide a comprehensive resource for the patient community.
Administrative and Financial Management:
- Assist in budget preparation, grant administration, and resource allocation for the Center and the Patient Advocacy Initiative.
- Help ensure compliance with University, state, and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in public health, life sciences, medical research, or a related field.
- Demonstrated medical and/or scientific acumen.
- Proven interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to manage complex projects.
- Passion for rare disease advocacy and research with a commitment to improving patient outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in public health, life sciences, or a related field preferred.
- Understanding of the rare disease landscape and its challenges.
- Experience in building networks and managing partnerships in healthcare or research settings.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary projects and teams.
- Proven experience in external engagement and network building, particularly in healthcare or research.
