Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated administrative skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff, and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students.
The mission of Student Life is to support the development of the whole student by providing opportunities to connect and learn from other students, faculty, and staff through serving in student government, being part of a campus club or committee, or attending an event or conference on campus.
Student Life values and supports the college experience, social justice, building community, respect for all people, learning from each other, and having fun.
The Manager, Student Life will be supervising a variety of student development programs, activities, and services, including student government, student activities, and student clubs; coordinating and overseeing the various supervised opportunities for students; supervising staff and temporary employees; conveying information regarding program functions and procedures; scheduling work assignments within established timeframes and standards; and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations within established guidelines. This is a classified-administrative position.

This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year, classified administrative position. The salary has an appropriate placement on Range 11 of the current Administrative/Confidential salary schedule. Initial salary placement is $5,930 to $6,537/month, with future steps up to $8,344/month. Placement on the salary schedule is commensurate with experience. The college offers a fringe benefit package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and retirement system membership. Assignment includes 20 paid holidays, 22 vacation days, and 12 days sick leave annually.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Analyzes students' needs for the purpose of determining appropriate actions, providing solutions and support, and complying with federal, state, and district guidelines.
- Collaborates with a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. Human Services Agencies, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) staff, Associated Students of Napa Valley College (ASNVC), LGBTQ community, Inter-club Council, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and programs, student life networking and community outreach within established guidelines.
- Collaborates with the residential life director for the purpose of providing a broad student life experience to residential housing.
- Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of preparing reports, making recommendations; and preparing information for distribution.
- Coordinates student activities and events with college departments and offices (e.g. plan and organize student activities and other college events, including outreach, in-reach, student engagement activities; coordination and implementation of student events; awareness of diverse student populations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring implementation of all student life processes and activities, in compliance with guidelines and regulations.
- Develops forms and materials for the purpose of providing necessary information to prospective and enrolled students and implementing new student support programs.
- Develops, implements, and monitors department process and makes recommendations for the purpose of ensuring resources and systems are coordinating with student needs.
- Evaluates internal operating procedures (e.g. recommended policy changes, handbook revisions, document updates, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of student life and institutional policies.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. statistical data, program reports, webpage, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the integrity and availability of documentation in support of student educational goals.
- Maintains department multi-media (e.g. web page, portal, supporting documents, etc.) for the purpose of providing and promoting current program information.
- Manages a wide variety of Student Life Activities (e.g. scheduling; data entry in student database; preparation and management of ASNVC budget and publications; scheduling and planning activities, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services that adhere to established guidelines and regulations.
- Manages daily operations of the Office of Student Life (e.g. customer service, departmental and campus-wide activities, on and off campus student activities, student support, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that Office of Student Life meets the needs of students seeking direction and personnel seeking information.
- Oversees the operations of the Associated Students of Napa Valley College for the purpose of ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose to conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Performs personnel functions (e.g. scheduling, planning, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, terminating, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and ensuring skills and abilities align with program needs and operations.
- Prepares written information (e.g. correspondence, agendas, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Presents student life information at campus events for Napa Valley College students (e.g. department/program policies, events/opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring community outreach and student knowledge of student life processes.
- Processes a variety of documents (e.g. ASNVC applications, forms, eligibility, verifications, change in status, data reports NVC clubs, etc.) for the purpose of tracking students, disseminating information, and responding to requests in compliance with administrative guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Provides leadership training (e.g. student government and student club officers, etc.) for the purpose of implementing necessary guidance for leadership development and ensuring compliance with all college policies and practices.
- Provides oversight and guidance for the purpose of resolving issues, sharing information, and ensuring the effective operation of Student Life Services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from internal and external parties for the purpose of providing information, assistance and/or direction.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: analyzing processes; applying job-related codes, regulations and laws; classifying data and/or information; conducting meetings; estimating required resources; operating standard office equipment and office technology; performing required procedures; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; interpersonal skills; coordinating program activities; and using proprietary software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Student Life projects; business telephone etiquette; job-related codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; knowledge of community resources; office equipment and technology; recordkeeping and record retention practices; Student Life operations, practices, procedures, rules and precedents; role of student activities at community colleges; parliamentary procedure; applicable state education codes; and federal and state educational assistance programs.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Responsibility:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of resources from other work units is sometimes required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience:
Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in job-related area.
