Job Description: Faculty at the Shaw Center for Children and Families are conducting a study on the family experiences of Mexican-origin youth in the Michiana area. Your skills will help us to connect with families in our community, so they can share their thoughts and experiences with us. We are hoping to uncover how Mexican-origin families are coping with the challenges they face in their everyday lives. More specifically, in this role you will coordinate research activities and conduct interviews for the Vivimos Unidos project.

Responsibilities include:
  • Recruiting Mexican-origin youth and their parents from the South Bend/Goshen/Elkhart region
  • Training and supervising students as assigned
  • Scheduling and conducting assessments participating in research meetings
  • Monitoring complex project and laboratory activities
  • Preparing reports for project leadership
Please note: This is a part-time, 6-month limited term position. The ability to speak fluently in English and Spanish and to accommodate a flexible schedule is critical. Since parents work, and 12-18-year-olds have school, we do need to schedule them in the evenings and weekends, so this will be a part of your work week.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years) and 1-2 years of experience in a related field
Skills:
  • Superior verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Familiar with simple databases (Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Ability to keep track of details
  • Supervisory experience
